Los Angeles

New York 20.4.2015

We landed Los Angeles from Honolulu the 6th of March and had planned to stay in the Americas for 15 days.

As always on our trip we didn't plan anything except that we had booked a hostel for the first night in the Hollywood area. For our surprise we walked down the walk of fame that was practically one block away from our place. LA felt so big and in the metro we saw even a blue dog.

The first day we hiked up to the Hollywood sign with three Brazilian girls from the same hostel. There is only the sign and we were satisfied just to get to a  point where you can see it nicely and get pictures. The day was hot so we decided to go to Santa Monica beach. The bus took like two hours but it was worth it. The amusement park in Santa Monica is placed just where Road 66 ends. The famous Santa Monica pier was cool and we spotted seals next to it. The beach is huge too and the boulevard for bicycles is long and you get to Venice beach quickly. We had amazing nachos from a food truck and enjoyed the vitality of this city.

Shopping in LA is easy and really good. We visited for the first time Amoeba, the huge cd/dvd/lp/book store that was amazing. We also saw the original Charlie Chaplin studios.

At first we were unsure about renting a car in LA because all the people we met said that moving with the public transportation is not possible. Anyway, we get around really well by public transport and didn't need a car.

On our last night we went to visit legendary bars and venues, the Rainbow and the Whiskey go go. Places were nice, Rainbow full of pics of Lemmy and other stars, drinks suprisingly ok priced and atmosphere pretty much like a normal bar. But not any fames hanging around at that moment.

In Whiskey there were four bands playing and ones guitarists who we met in Rainbow asked us to come. Bands were okay, but not maybe going to be very famous. One thing we noted is that it seems to be important to tell people who you know. So in Whiskey some man told us almost immediately that he goes out with Slashs dad. Who knows if that is true or not, we didn't find that so impressive. But that kind of habit that you want to be a fame or at least be with them is maybe a thing in LA.

Earlier on the same day we also decided that once here we should have a road trip. So we went to make a reservation for rent a car for the next day.. :)
