The next thing what of course interests is money. How much does it cost?! Well actually we don´t know - yet. It can be that we have calculated totally wrong. But this is our budget and what we have already spent.
Unfortunately we have not win lottery, so we have been saving. By counting roughly how many days we would spent in every country and comparing different books and websites what´s the day budget in each country we got some idea about our day budget.
The
average day budget we counted to be around 30 euros per day. In Asia it
is lower and of course for example in the States higher. So we will spend more
time in Asia. For a ten months period it is about 7000 euros per person.
Some other travel stories gave us some idea of how much money to spend on flight tickets, visas, vaccinations and so on. Also the Madventures book was pretty useful. Our saving goal was about 10 000 to 12 000 euros per each.
Things bought so far, prices per person;
flights Beijing-Madrid 3250 euros (route is on previous post)
Travel insurance for ten months 840 euros
Visa to Russia (through travel agency) 82 euros
Visa to China 60 euros
Helsinki-Moscow train ticket 87 euros
Esta to Usa 14 dollars
Vaccinations 250-400 euros per person, depending on what we already had
Backpacks, used from the army shop Varusteleka 39,90 eurosper piece
Some other equipments like sleeping bag, hammock and mosquito net we have bought too, but not any special expensive super stuff. Normal shoes, normal clothes and so on.
These altogether are now about 4700 euros per person.
Our trip is not going to be luxorius hotels or extreme sports everyday, not even Michelin restaurants. Fortunately we have some friends who let us sleep on their couches, and if we are even more lucky, we meet some new ones too ;)
Still we think that we don´t need to stress about money, or miss something because it is too expensive.
We have been planning this trip for about two years. First we would like to give some idea on our trip plan.
In the beginning our idea was to travel America from north to south. The problem was that with our budget the trip would have been too short. We wanted to stay on the road for at least six months. The ideal would have been 12 months. After making some budgeting we decided to use our connections better and spend more time in cheaper countries. We ended up to do a round-the-world trip that was a dream of both of us.
This route came up when we brought up some of must-do / must-see options. Monica wanted to visit Peru, Johannes wanted to lay on heavenly beaches and both wanted to take the Trans-Siberian train. Some compromises had to be done; we had to drop Nepal, New Zealand and other Latin American countries from our route. We had to skip also the whole African continent.
Next step was walking into the Kilroy travel agency in order to optimate our plan.
Now we have some kind of idea of our route, even we haven't bought every plane or train ticket. Here is a map that was drawn in our farewell party!
Route:
By train from Helsinki to Beijing, stopping also in Ulan Bator, Mongolia
Flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
About two months time to discover whatever we like
Flying to Melbourne, Australia
By bus to Sydney, Australia

Flying to Hawaii
Flying to Los Angeles
Somehow to San Francisco
Flying to Vancouver, visiting British Columbia
